Why do we make small edits to very old posts?
First, there are some real gems amongst the older posts. Anything that encourages readers to revisit them is a good thing IMHO.

Editing others' posts
I agree that there should be a cut back on mass edits. Additionally, I've seen a lot of tags added to posts lately, that are redundant, duplicates of other tags or otherwise unneeded.
