Questions relating to strategical play and long term planning in chess

I see no real difference in these tags. Should we merge them? I have created a synonym proposal here (currently with one agreement vote and no disagreement votes); if you agree or disagree with the merge, please vote there.

As a note, you need an answer score of 5 or more on the tag, to vote on the synonym proposal – Herb Wolfe Jun 9 at 16:01
  • @HerbWolfe ah, thank you. Which tag do you need the score on? – Brandon_J Jun 9 at 19:16

I believe that it's the tag being voted on, in this case planning. – Herb Wolfe Jun 10 at 15:04

While similar, I do agree with you that they are similar terms, I do not think that they should be merged. I think that planning refers to long-term and that stragety is more short-term. That kind of distinction is needed, IMHO.

There could be many other reasons why that I do not know of. I could be wrong. My point here, I guess, is that while the differences between "planning" and "stragety" may be a bit murky, they should be separate nonetheless. The distinction is needed. There is at least some difference that makes them separate despite the similarities.

  • In that case, I reckon that the wikis should be updated. – Brandon_J Jun 8 at 1:49
  • I agree heartily with you. I suppose that you or someone else will have to do that since I don't know the difference. – Rewan Demontay Jun 8 at 1:51
  • Trouble is, I don't really know the difference, either XD. Nor would I want to do this without meta consensus. – Brandon_J Jun 8 at 1:52
  • True. This is merely my POV. And I already have a downvote. Eh well though. – Rewan Demontay Jun 8 at 2:04
